Before leaving for the Cinque Terre, take a few minutes to collect what you will need during the journey. The same approach will help you choose and share your Riomaggiore photographs when you return.

Before you leave: a folder for your stay

Create a folder on your phone with the trip name and dates. Separate confirmations, transport, your itinerary and photos: names such as “01-arrival”, “02-accommodation” and “03-itinerary” are easier to recognise than several attachments called “download”.

iPhone photos: when to convert HEIC to JPG

Some iPhone photographs are saved in HEIC format. If the recipient or website you want to use cannot open them, make a JPG copy with the HEIC to JPG converter.

Choose a photo, run the conversion and download the result. Check its orientation and colours before sending it. A copy of a marina or terrace photograph can be easier to share this way; keep the original in your archive. The tool converts the main image in the file and does not turn animated sequences or collections into a set of photographs.

Smaller photos to send

If a JPG attachment exceeds a sending limit, you can reduce the JPG photo’s file size. Start with a high quality setting, download the copy and compare it with the original, particularly the details of the houses, edges and shaded areas.

Compression can lose detail. Keep the original of photographs you want to print or archive, and use the smaller version for sharing. You do not always need stronger compression: choose the result according to how you will use it.
